Garbage
What an exciting system Taiwan has for garbage! They collect it 5 days a week, but you know how, in North America, you just sort of leave your garbage at the curb, or possibly throw it in the apartment dumpster at your convenience? Not so much here. Rather, you keep your garbage organized all week in categories such as "household appliances," "recyclable containers," "used clothing," "kitchen waste suitable for pig feed," and "kitchen waste suitable for fertilizer." You ensure most of it is placed in special (and expensive) garbage bags which are available at 7-11 (along with everything else you could ever need to survive).
Then when you hear this tune, you rush down to the corner and give each category of garbage to the appropriate city worker, unless you are first intercepted by an amateur collector who may find more profitable uses for your waste.
Sound complicated? It is. Fortunately, the National Police Association has created a website with FAQ for Household Waste Disposal.
