Interesting things about Barend Biesheuvel
• Born June 24, 1948 in the Netherlands (the same day the Soviet Union began building the Berlin Blockade)
• Fluent in Dutch, English, French and German
• Went to hotel school, and therefore knows how to carve patterns in butter
• Immigrated to the States solo at the age of 22
• Attended Calvin College and Seminary
• Worked, with my mom, as a host couple in a half-way house for women inmates
• Possibly has a copy of every The Banner ever published
• Taught me how to use a computer on a Commodore 64
• Refers to Nicholas P. Wolterstorff as "Nicky-baby"
• Shares a name with this former Dutch prime minister and this boat
• Is still a Dutch citizen
• Has worked at two of the most fascinating ministries in Montreal: the Seafarers Centre and St. Columba House, a group that offers food, education, daycare, furniture, computers and more to the needy community in the city
• Listens to the CBC, identifies piano pieces he likes, then tracks down the sheet music and sends it to me
• Gives the extensive and informative tours of Montreal to visitors, with stops at St. Joseph's oratory, the Notre Dame, the Old Port, Mount Royal and more
• Has gone back to school to become ordained in the United Church of Canada
• Will be doing an superfluous but required and quite interesting internship in Dartmouth, NS later this year
• His culinary specialties include chicken fried rice and peach flambée

• Shares his birthday with the Quebec Fête Nationale (St. Jean Baptiste Day), and therefore has a holiday on every birthday!!!
